It is soothing to keep it in the fridge between applications. <br />You might want to look into the homeopathic remedy called Rhus Tox - available in most health food stores or online. It is taken weekly during poison ivy season. I tincture it, using 40% vodka, then cutting it to 20% with distilled water. It really works great. But now I'm seeing your recipe with vinegar and wonder if that wouldn't be better. Wish more was mentioned on how these two differ, and if one remedy for one is as good for the other...Also, just read about mango...YES! Mango and Poison Oak are related! The entire tree and the skin of the fruit are the culprits. I found this out the hard way after visiting relatives in Hawaii when very young, and was taken to the emergency room with the rash. <br /><br />You MAY be able to eat mango, but only in SMALL amounts, and only if already peeled. I have, but when I consume too much, I do tend to get the rash. And NEVER touch the peel, or let the juice run down your face!!!!! I have been using it alone (crushing the dried leaves and mixing with water), and it lasts about 12 hours, which is a lot better than the anti-itch cream I used to use. I'll have to try putting it in vinegar and add some sage and plantain. It's too late for jewelweed this year. I keep hot water in there and cook until the leaves are totally spent...(dried out and brittle) usually 7 or 8 hours. Remove spent Plantain leaves. Add 2 T of Bees wax. Melt that into the mixture and pour into small jars. A dermatologis...I know it's not natural but...<br /><br />A dermatologist told me long before they were available over the counter... take Zyrtec. One pill before the bumps turn to blisters. Or, when you're exposed. It has never failed to work for me.<br /><br />I'm very allergic to it, too... and the little pills have saved me countless times.<br /><br />Another thought - if you're very allergic to PI - avoid mangos too. Similar oils are found in the skin of the fruit and is often referred to as "mango mouth".
